About the teacher
Chicago-born saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Alexander is an experienced performer and teacher with nearly 12 years under his belt. From humble beginnings playing in the Lighthouse Jazz Big Band, Alexander has performed at renowned venues worldwide, including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, 91 Living Room, and Boogie Boogie Jazz Club (Seoul).
Alexander began his career as an educator alongside his studies at Marian University, tutoring local high schoolers in saxophone and clarinet according to the WSMA exam board (equivalent to the ABRSM).
Since settling in London, Alexander has taught music across the Key Stages at London Academy Primary and Eastbury Community School, where he was responsible for lesson planning, delivery, and pupil assessment. He also directed student ensembles, including choir and rock/pop combos. His teaching approach blends real-world experience, wisdom from great teachers (such as Julliard School of Music’s Sam Dillon), the ABRSM/Trinity frameworks, and the Suzuki method.
Alexander divides his time between education and performance, working both as a sideman with London’s leading musicians and as the musical director of his own ensemble, MOOD. Alexander is passionate about delivering highly tailored service to each of his students, believing that “no two students are the same and no two people want the same thing from music.”
With Alexander, students learn to play music they enjoy by both ear and music notation, deepening the connection between their inner ears and their instruments. Additionally, Alexander helps each student develop a practice routine, fostering a positive relationship with practicing and improvement.
