About the teacher
Andrew is a trumpeter and dedicated educator with over fifteen years of professional performance and teaching experience. He holds a Master’s degree with Distinction from the Royal College of Music and a First-Class BMus from Edinburgh Napier University. As Principal and Section Trumpet with ensembles such as the National Symphony Orchestra, London Film Orchestra, New Generation Opera Festival Orchestra, and as an extra trumpet with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, he excels in orchestral, chamber, and contemporary contexts. His award-winning background—including the Napier Concerto Competition, the MacMillan Award for Best Instrumentalist, the Henry Wood Trust Scholarship, and the Vivian Prins & Sir Philip Shelbourne Award—underscores his musical excellence.
Andrew’s teaching practice encompasses one-to-one tuition, group workshops, and bespoke curriculum design for students at all levels—from beginners embarking on grade exams to advanced players preparing conservatoire auditions. Drawing on masterclasses with Håkan Hardenberger, Matthias Höfs, Pacho Flores, and Alistair Mackie, he blends traditional brass pedagogy with modern techniques, emphasizing tone production, articulation, sight-reading, and stylistic awareness. Andrew adapts lesson plans to individual goals—whether for exam preparation, ensemble coaching, or personal artistry. Known for his patient, encouraging manner, he cultivates confidence, creativity, and a lifelong passion for trumpet performance, empowering each student to reach their full potential.
